As part of our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at Marvista, we have some special ways to recognize and celebrate students who demonstrate positive behaviors. With our expectations that students be respectful and responsible we often see students going above and beyond in their efforts to be kind, caring or inclusive toward classmates. When this happens a staff member nominates them to be recognized for our Monthly Kindness Award program. The story about the student’s act of kindness is shared over our school’s intercom for all to hear, and provides a wonderful example for students to follow. In addition, the student’s photo is taken and posted prominently in our hallway. The student also chooses a reward such as a Marvista bag, bracelet, or necklace. Recognizing our students’ thoughtful, caring, and inclusive actions toward others inspires our students and staff alike, and is one of my absolute favorite days of the month! Here are the students who have been recognized so far this year:
September – Jonathan Fernandez-Hernandez – 2nd grade, and Joe Gozoch – 6th grade
October – Christopher Diaz – 3rd grade
November – Sally Roose – 4th grade
December – Juliana Vallejos – 3rd grade, and Janet Ephrem – 3rd grade
Watch in upcoming newsletters each month for the students who are honored! Enjoy special time with your family over winter break. We will back to school on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.
